We have chosen to include different sports within our BT Sport ident as it links to the channels corporate identity. It links to the channels corporate identity as the channel is a sports channel and by including different sports that are shown on the channel. The ident will show transitions between different sports. The sports that will be featured in our final ident are football and rugby, these are two mainstream sports which are constantly featured on the channel. The ident will begin with a rugby ball being kicked up into the air and through the posts. There will then be a transition where the rugby ball changes into a football and is caught by a goalkeeper. The goalkeeper will then roll the ball out onto the pitch and the BT Sport logo that we rebranded will appear on the screen. Sometimes you will find that other relevant information appears on the screen during an ident however we have decided to keep it plain and simple. We have let the imagery convey the information as we do not want to bore the audience.

Our idea is that we are going to film a sports ident featuing 4 different kinds of sports. These are cricket, frisbee, rugby and football. There will be an amalgamation of clips of the 4 sports starting off with a cricket player hitting the ball, then a transition shot of someone catching a frisbee, which then will move into a rugby player placing the ball on top of a cone and a goalkeeper kicking a football. Then the ‘BT Sport’ logo we created will appear on the football whilst it is rolling and comes to a hault.
Theme The theme of our ident is related to sports, this links to the channels corporate identity and ethos. By previewing sports in the ident, it will convey to viewers what the channel is about and hopefully draw their attention in to the channel. In some ways this is similar to previous BT Sport idents as clips of sports are usually included however this is shown in a more creative way by using a variety of different shots and transitions. Style The ident is performance based as it is centred around sportsmen playing different sports (cricket, frisbee, rugby and football) on a field. There is no narrative to this ident as there is not a story line for it to fit with as sports fixtures etc are not based on stories. Characters This ident will consist of 4 different characters. There will be a variety of different mise-en-scene to set the scene within this. One person will be dressed in a cricket uniform, one in a goalkeeper kit and one in a rugby kit. This is to show which sport they represent when they are performing on camera. Setting We will be filming our ident at Bromley Rugby Club to set the scene. We therefore can use the rugby posts and the rest of the pitch for the different sports to take place. Lighting The filming will be taking place in the morning therefore it will be broad daylight making it easier for the camera to focus on those featured. Another reason as to why we are filming in the day is because if sports fixtures take place at night, there are usually flood lights however we do not have access to these. Also without the correct equipment and backing lighting, some footage can come across as harsh when being filmed in the dark with artificial lighting. Typography Towards the end of the ident when the words ‘BT Sport’ are featured, we are going to use the font ‘dark larch’. This is because it similar to other fonts featured within sports channels. It also can be seen as a more masculine font as it is sans serif meaning it does not have any decorative flourishes at the end of strokes. Idea
Our idea is to create an ident for BT Sport. The duration of this ident is likely to las taround 25 seconds, this is so that it is long enough to include all information that is needed to be portrayed to viewers however short enough not to bore them. The ident features 4 different sports (football, cricket, rugby and frisbee). It will feature tracking shots of all 4 sports and transitions inbetween them. It will also feature the logo we created towards the end of the ident. Why are we rebranding BT Sport? We are rebranding BT Sport as their current logo seems to be very bland and notreally relate to the channels corporate identity and ethos. The logo has no relation to sports and also is not very eye-catching. How are we going to rebrand BT Sport? We are going to rebrand BT Sport as we are going to make sure viewers realise the channel is related to sports just when viewing the logo. This will help it relate to the channels corporate identity and the theme or their previous idents. Key Content The Key content of this ident we are creating are the different sports being shown on the screen and the enjoyment and concentration on the sportsmens faces. The close-up shots that will be featured will show the emotion and passion they have for their sports on their faces. This is important as it conveys to the audience what sport is really about and also may relate to how they feel about sports personally. Target Audience The target audience of this ident will be the same as the ordinary target audience of BT Sport which could be any ages from the beginning of teenage years and upwards. Usually the target audience are also males, this is most likely because those playing sports are also men What is our idea?
Our idea is to create a sports ident for BT Sport which features a variety of different sports such as football, cricket, rugby etc. The scene is set in a field and starts off with a cricket ball being hit up into the air and a tracking shot of it moving, then a new shot will be filmed of someone catching a frisbee instead of the cricket ball being there. Then when the frisbee is thrown, a new shot is of a rugby ball being caught and kicked into the air and the final shot will be of a goalkeeper saving a football from going into the net. Once the ball is caught, it will be rolled out onto the pitch featuring our BT Sport logo we created on the ball. When would it be likely to be aired? This ident could be aired during any time of the day. The reason being for this is because the sports channel has fixtures time tabled for sports all through out the day therefore it will always be viewed. In addition to this, as the channel is for sports only, the target audience for the ident will already be watching the channel. How could our idea develop in the future? Due to BT Sport idents being very similar using small clips from sports games and events, we could create a small narrative about sports which may be eye-catching to viewers. How could we keep the same theme throughout future idents? When planning and creating idents in the future, we could use the same theme by sticking to promoting sporting fixtures, events and victorious moments which have happened in sports history by showing clips of them. How has BT Sport previously kept a similar theme between its idents? Previously shown idents that are aired on BT Sport are all very similar as clips from a variety of sports games are showed and special moments within for example a quality goal. Why are we repackaging BT Sports idents? We are repackaging BT Sports logo as there is no actual relation to the channels corporate identity and ethos. By looking at the logo for BT Sport, you would not associate it with sports as nothing is featured within it that is sports related. It is very plain and simple and does simply not show what the channel airs or promotes. |
